Description from the seller
In all my years I have loved and handled ( and I have said this before, I know )
Antique bed- and table linen this is one of these occasions that I am sincerely
lost for words.
I still cannot believe how this piece came into my life.
It was part of a Manor house "clear out" by the new owners
who amongst other beautiful pieces had thrown it away into
a outside large container. I just happen to walk past the container and noticed it.
I can honestly say ( and there is another piece and its sibling ) I have never seen
such a handsome pair of initials.
I stil do not know whether it has been hand embroidered or not.
I have looked at the reverse and there are some loos threads, but I am still
not sure. But what does it matter. !!
We can date it as it is 1m90 wide and would have covered a bed of 1m50
which was already wide for the late 19th C. but of course it could also have
decked a bed of 1 meter ( 2 persons ) We will never know.
The border is framed with again an excellent Ajour de Venise ( open thread work)
Knowing now where the bed linen originate from it could possibly have been
even a bed linen for a senior staff member and thus a single person.
Whatever I leave it to you to admire the magnificent initials
and hopefully it will go to somebody who will also fall in love with it
and cherishes the piece.
