Three volumes in-4 (24 x 18.5 cm), full bindings in navy blue morocco, spine with five gold-embossed ribs decorated with a gold monogram and two red morocco title pieces, upper covers covered with a gold-embossed pattern of two interlaced B's, a larger motif repeated at the center of the covers, gilded edges, covers and spines preserved, leather-edged slipcases, 217-[1]; 198-1; 185-2 pages (complete). Very good condition.
Illustrated edition of 56 original color compositions by Mariette Lydis.
Numbered limited edition of 956 copies. One of 900 on Arches vellum (no. 483).
Jean Boccace – Giovanni Boccaccio by his Italian name – was born in 1313 in Florence or Certaldo, the town where he died in 1375. Boccace, along with Dante and Petrarch, is the founder of both the most illustrious Italian literary tradition and humanist culture, which would inspire the entire European Renaissance.
Very beautiful specimen.
