P+S Prats & Symington, Post Scriptum de Chryseia, 2010, 0.75 L bottles, 8 bottles.
Description from the seller
In November 1998, the Symington family proposed to Bruno Prats to participate in a new project, which consisted of producing a great unfortified wine in the Douro. Its implementation took place in 1999, with the creation of PRATS & SYMINGTON Limitada as an equitable partnership between the two families. Some experimental vinifications in that first year made it possible to define and choose the best plots and the most suitable grape varieties for the project. CHRYSEIA 2000 was the first harvest to be commercialized.
CHRYSEIA was one of the pioneers of the now widely recognized resurgence of unfortified DOURO DOC wines. However, this wine, whose name means “gold” in classical Greek, like the name of the river in Portuguese, remains faithful to its own style. Elegance and balance predominate, having depth without being heavy and presenting a full-bodied without being aggressive.
CHRYSEIA symbolizes the meeting of the noble Portuguese tradition with the no less rich Bordeaux tradition, in the sense of a new modernity.
Post Scriptum is an elegant wine with a deep garnet color. It has a strong presence of black fruits such as plums and cherries and has an attractive resinous note. It is exuberant and round, a little mineral underlined by a fine acidity.
Winemaking:
The grapes that made this Post Scriptum wine are from Quinta de Roriz, Quinta da Perdiz, being chosen at different times in the month of September. Manual sorting is carried out on a sorting table after which the grapes are removed before undergoing a second mechanical selection of the grape berries, before being gently crushed. The grapes are then transmitted to the fermentation vats, and once in the vats they are inoculated with a specially selected yeast culture and fermentation takes place at around 25ºC. Maceration is very gentle and adjusted in order to produce a wine intended for drinking sooner, however, with a great capacity to mature in the bottle. It is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.
Castes:
Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz.
Tasting notes:
Post Scriptum is an elegant wine, with layers of wood and notes of ripe, dark fruits. It is balanced, with ripe fruits such as berries and cherries supported by a notable acidity from the complex tannins that give this wine great potential.
Storage and serving advice:
Store in a cool, dark place (15ºC). Serve at 16ºC-18ºC.
