Description from the seller
Ceramic lid box from the late Meiji to early Taishō period (ca. 1890–1920)
possibly intended for storing tea or spices.
The object has the shape of a small traditional house with red and black engraved facade panels.
On the shiny glazed roof lies a handcrafted figurine of a child.
The roof has the typical thick, lightly dripping glaze of Sumida ceramics.
while contrasting with the matte, rough-textured walls.
The child's details are painted with soft colors.
On the side, there is a white glaze cartouche with the Japanese atelier mark.
indicates production at a Sumida workshop.
