Monumental bust of Louis XIV - ca. 90 cm - ex Grand Café-Restaurant 1st Class, Amsterdam CS
Beautiful, large decorative bust of a gentleman in Louis XIV style, with an elaborately styled wig and a breastplate with a coat of arms (centaur motif).
The bust stood for years as a showstopper in the famous Grand Café-Restaurant 1e Klas in the historic station building of Amsterdam Centraal, which gives it a beautiful origin and story.
The bust is made of patinated plaster / composite in stone color. The sculpture shows natural signs of aging, small scratches and chips, and some discoloration appropriate for use in a hospitality interior, but no disturbing cracks or missing parts. The eyes and hair are very detailed and modeled, creating a strong decorative effect.
