Description from the seller

Rare Signed Darkroom Print — 1960s Fashion Photography by Michael Joseph

A beautifully preserved slice of 1960s fashion history, this original, hand-printed darkroom photograph by Michael Joseph showcases his distinctive eye for graphic composition and iconic style. Known internationally for his seminal Beggars Banquet images of The Rolling Stones from June 1968, Joseph’s fashion work from this era is far rarer to the market — making this signed print an exceptional collector’s find.

The Image

This portrait, titled “Debbie in Autumn Mode” (1964), captures a poised model dressed in a tailored, almost military-inspired ensemble. Her calm confidence, paired with the strong checkerboard backdrop, creates a visually arresting composition typical of Joseph’s bold, textural approach.
The warm tone, crisp detail, and rich contrast reflect the craftsmanship of an authentic mid-century darkroom print — not a reproduction, but a singular object from the photographer’s own archive.

Signature & Authenticity

Signed by Michael Joseph along the lower left mount

Original darkroom print, unique and vintage

A rare opportunity to acquire a genuine fashion work from a celebrated British photographer

Mount & Presentation

Mounted within a bright white archival mount

Mount dimensions: 50cm (H) × 40cm (W)

Ready to frame, or to display as-is for a clean, gallery-style presentation

Why This Piece Stands Out

A scarce 1960s fashion image by a photographer whose work is culturally significant and increasingly sought-after

Ideal for collectors of fashion, mid-century photography, or British cultural history

Striking, stylish, and instantly conversation-worthy

A Personal Note

I take great pride in handling and dispatching these one-off historical pieces. Your artwork will be carefully packaged with the utmost attention, ensuring it arrives safely and beautifully presented. Owning an original print from this period is something special — and I’m delighted to pass this one forward to its next custodian.

Seller's Story

My father, Michael Joseph, was an advertising photographer based in London from the mid-sixties to the early nineties. During that time, he created some truly remarkable work — his most famous moment being the Beggars Banquet gatefold for the Rolling Stones. My ongoing mission is to share and celebrate what we call 'the other photos' — the lesser-known but equally captivating pieces from his archive. Within this collection, you'll find a mix of test prints, images from specific photo shoots, and more personal works, all created with his characteristic passion and devotion. Many of these images owe their atmosphere to the magic of the darkroom: intricate group scenes, striking still lifes, and moments that draw the viewer in and stir emotion. Variety is key - and I often offer unique, one-off pieces. I hope you enjoy discovering my father’s work, and I look forward to sending you a genuine piece of photographic history.
