LC2 sofa by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, manufactured by Alivar in Italy in 1980–1990, with a chrome steel frame and plum-coloured nubuck leather, dimensions 130 cm wide by 70 cm deep by 68 cm high, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
The LC2 sofa, an icon of 20th-century design, is presented in this auction in its most classic and sought-after form: a structure in polished chrome steel and upholstery in high-quality prugna suede. This model, born from the collaboration between Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand in 1928, revolutionized the concept of seating, offering an innovative aesthetic and uncompromising functionality.
The distinctive feature of the LC2 is its external structure, a steel frame that supports the upholstered cushions. This design, ahead of its time, highlights the purity of the lines and the meticulous craftsmanship of the steel, elements that give the sofa a timeless elegance. The separation between the frame and the cushions, a clear nod to the principles of rationalism, emphasizes the sofa's functionality and comfort.
The two-seater model up for auction is presented in excellent condition, demonstrating the quality of the materials and the care taken in its craftsmanship. The steel frame is intact and sturdy, maintaining its original shine thanks to recent cleaning and polishing. The elastic straps, essential for seating comfort, are still well tensioned, ensuring optimal support. The cushioning of the pillows is solid and compact, and the upholstery in a beautiful prugna-colored suede-like leather is like new, showing no defects. The seat base lining bears the Alivar brand, an Italian company renowned for its re-editions of classic designs.
The size of the sofa, 130 cm wide, 70 cm deep, and 68 cm high, makes it a versatile piece, suitable for various environments and decor styles.
The history of the LC2 is closely linked to Le Corbusier's vision, who conceived furniture as 'domestic equipment,' functional and comfortable objects capable of adapting to human needs. The collaboration with Jeanneret and Perriand led to an innovative collection of seating, initially produced by Thonet and later by Cassina, which has held the rights since 1964.
Alivar, the company that created this model, is inspired by masterpieces of modern design, reinterpreting them with a contemporary language. The company is certified '100% Made in Italy,' guaranteeing the quality and excellence of Italian production.
Our company, ORVETT, offers free transportation insurance to ensure maximum peace of mind for the buyer. For overseas shipments, the cost will be calculated after the auction closes, based on the destination.
