Airborne - Normandy - Ranger is the first edition in this format, an English-language Official US Army Sniper Handbook from 1944, originating in the United States, with about 190 pages and in good condition.
Description from the seller
Rare official USA army sniper handbook (dated February 1944, published for the Normandy campaign) related to techniques of sniping, night movement, sniper camouflage, use of telescopic sights, and more. A fantastic booklet full of information and photos of these techniques. Approximately 190 pages. Difficult to find an army sniper manual for your WWII USA collection!
The U.S. Army's lack of familiarity with sniping tactics proved disastrous in Normandy and the campaign in Western Europe, where they encountered well-trained German snipers. In Normandy, German snipers remained hidden in dense vegetation and were able to encircle American units, firing at them from all sides. The American and British forces were surprised by how close the German snipers could approach safely and attack them, as well as by their ability to hit targets at up to 1,000 meters. A notable mistake made by inexperienced American soldiers was to lie down and wait when targeted by German snipers, allowing the snipers to pick them off one after another. German snipers often infiltrated Allied lines and sometimes, when the front lines moved, they continued to fight from their sniping positions, refusing to surrender until their rations and munitions were exhausted.
This is a really rare and hard-to-find WW2 USA Sniper manual, which would make a great addition to your WW2 collection!
