ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jaume Plensa is a sculptor and visual artist internationally renowned for his monumental works that combine art, poetry and spirituality. He studied at the Llotja School of Fine Arts and the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, developing an early interest in public space and the impact of art on everyday life.
His career took off in the 1980s, when he began experimenting with unconventional materials such as iron, resin, glass, alabaster, fibre optics and light, integrating a dialogue between the human body, nature and language into his pieces. Words, letters and signs are recurring elements in his work, conceived as bridges of universal communication.
Plensa has created large-scale urban sculptures in cities such as Chicago, Montreal, Paris, London, New York, Shanghai and Tokyo, with the Crown Fountain in Chicago's Millennium Park being one of his most famous creations. These interventions transform public spaces into places of encounter and collective reflection.
His work has also been exhibited in major museums and galleries around the world, consolidating his position as one of the most influential Spanish artists today. He has received awards such as the Velázquez Prize for Plastic Arts in 2013 and international recognition for his contribution to contemporary art.
