AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

NO RESERVE

G J Staller was born in 1880 in Amsterdam, where he lived and worked for most of his life. The city and its Jewish population attracted him as subjects for his paintings. His work mainly consists of cityscapes of the Jewish district around Waterlooplein and the Jordaan, reflecting the life of the local community. Staller himself, of non-Jewish descent, grew up near the Jewish neighborhood on the Rapenburg, later moving to the new Prinsengracht. Staller's work depicts half a century of Amsterdam, especially the activities and life in the Jewish district, and thus holds historical significance.

Staller was a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam, under the guidance of August Allebé, and was a member of Arti et Amicitiae and Sint Lucas in Amsterdam. He died in 1956.

Oil painting on canvas in very good condition, canvas size 50x40 cm. The original frame is also in very good condition and will be included free of charge with the artwork.

Work is carefully packed and sent via international registered mail.
