Palmbomen, an oil painting on canvas from the Netherlands by Herman Bieling, dated 1930–1940, hand-signed, 62 x 77 cm, 3 kg, sold with frame, original edition, Galerie.
Description from the seller
Hermann Friederich 'Herman' Bieling.
Herman Bieling trained at the Rotterdam Academy and lived and worked in the city for most of his life. He was a passionate avant-garde artist and the driving force behind the Rotterdam artists' federation "De Branding," whose exhibitions and events were groundbreaking. After 1917, his style developed from luminism to a synthesis of cubism and expressionism. Most of his work was lost in a major studio fire in 1930. Museums include the Boymans-van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam and the Hague Municipal Museum. The artist worked in Hillegersberg, Bennekom, Renkum, Zandvoort, Paris, Brittany, Mallorca, Corsica (Ajaccio), Morocco (Marakesh), Finland, the United States, and, from 1938, in Rhoon. In 1917, he and other Rotterdam artists founded the group "De Branding." He was also an active member of the Hague Art Circle.
His work can be found in the Boymans van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, the Gemeentemuseum The Hague, the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, the Centraal Museum Utrecht and the Museum of Religious Art in Utrecht.
Literature, among others
Els Brinkman, The Branding 1917-1926, Rotterdam 1991
Ed Wingen, Herman Bieling 1887-1964, paintings, sculptures, graphics, Albrandswaard 2003
Subject: View of Palma de Mallorca. (This is based on the previous painting I offered a few weeks earlier, purchased from the same collection.)
Oil on canvas, size 55x70cm. In good condition with minimal signs of wear. The frame was originally made by Bieling himself (he used broomsticks). This is also included free of charge with the work.
Work is carefully packaged and shipped internationally by registered mail.
