Magnificent large Tray with Handles, produced by Herend - Hungary in the most desired pattern “Rothschild” (Bird Collection), in perfect condition. Made in rectangular wavy shape with two swirly handles, the platter is hand painted in the well known Rothschild pattern with birds perched among branches and scattered butterflies, insects & bugs, gilt banding. Lucky number 8 butterflies are scattered around the magnificent couple of red and yellow birds, while ladybug, blue beetle and others are painted on the underside of the border. This pattern was first created in 1850 for the Rothschild family of Europe and is considered to be the epitome of hand painting on porcelain. Twelve different motifs portray a 19th century tale about Baroness Rothschild who lost her pearl necklace in the garden of her Vienna residence. Several days later it was found by her gardener, who saw birds playing with it in a tree. It is in perfect condition, Like New Never Used, marked on the underside with Herend blue shield mark and numbered, First Choice, NO chips, NO cracks, NO repairs, please see the pictures as they are part of description.
