Fireplace clock 'Retour de Pêche' - Solid bronze signed Rousseau - by E. Moisant (Paris) - early 20th century, working, original.
French late 19th-century table clock (circa 1890-1900) signed E. Moisant (Paris), in the style of international/gothic romantic neo-Gothic. Stunning solid patinated bronze sculpture depicting a fisherwoman with a basket and flowing skirt (engraving 'Rousseau' on the statue base – likely Victor Rousseau, a Belgian sculptor known for allegorical figures). On a pink veined marble base with gilded ornaments and decorated feet. White enamel dial with Roman numerals and floral decoration, manual winding mechanism with striking on the hour and half-hour on a bell. Internal serial numbers '2291 35' / '60' on the movement. Complete with original key, pendulum, and bell. Serviced and certified operational by Oreficeria Padovan Paolo (PN) on 04/12/2021 – document attached with notes on cleaning/restoration of parts. Excellent condition: original patina intact, no visible damage. Dimensions: total height of the statue from the base 42.5 cm, maximum height of the marble base 14.5 cm, marble base width 24 cm, depth 12 cm, clock dial diameter 9.5 cm, side decorations of the feet 31.5 cm (long) / 19.5 cm (short). Statue weight 3 kg, marble base weight 5.5 kg (total 8.5 kg). Rare example of late 1800s Parisian decorative clockmaking signed by a sculptor, highly sought after by collectors.
