Description from the seller
Campo Viejo Reserva 1966 (6 Bottles)
Bodegas Campo Viejo - (Logroño, La Rioja)
D.O.: RIOJA
"Campo Viejo is one of the most recognized wineries in Rioja. Pioneers of the tradition of this land, their wines are the maximum expression of the different subzones that make up the designation of origin.
The name Campo Viejo comes from the time of the Roman Empire and more specifically from the tradition of the fourth legion of the army that settled in Calahorra. After years of fighting, all those soldiers who managed to discharge with honors after having achieved some success were awarded a plot of land located east of the town “Villar de Arnedo” as a reward. Since then this land began to be known as Campus Veteranus, and from there the name Campo Viejo arose, which has survived to this day.
Campo Viejo is an iconic winery for several reasons. Firstly, it was one of the first brands that made Rioja wine available to the consumer, becoming a pioneer of celebrations throughout Spain. They were also among the first to use the typical Rioja bottle that later became a symbol for brands in the area. In addition, they paved the way in the use of techniques such as “the lamp and the candle”, which was used to check the clarity of the wine.
As for recognition, these began to arrive at the end of the eighties, when after establishing itself as the leading brand in the region in terms of exports, Campo Viejo began to gain fame at the most important international fairs. Thus, his 1978 Gran Reserva won the Gold Medal at Vinexpo, a milestone that helped put Rioja wines on the map at that time."
