Working with a single shade of blue oil paint, VANTA creates the illusion of multiple tones through paint thickness alone. Where the blue sits thin, it reads lighter and more luminous. Where it builds up thicker, it becomes dark and dense. This simple manipulation creates the stacked organic forms that seem to float against the atmospheric background - all achieved without mixing different colors or adding white.

The technique demands precise control. Those darker forms appear to advance while lighter areas recede, purely through the physics of how much pigment sits on the canvas.
