Description from the seller
Disputations of Robert Bellarmine, Cardinal of the Holy Roman Church, of the title of S. Maria in Via. On the controversies of the Christian faith, against the heretics of this time: A work, now finally compiled, reviewed, and divided into four volumes by the author himself. This edition includes, in each volume, some recent writings by the same author, or specific sections inserted. With indexes, compiled from these writings, made much more comprehensive than ever before. Ingolstadt, Adam Sartorius, 1601 — volumes 1 and 2 in one binding — (26) 1283 columns (= approximately 625 pages) (96), (14) 1127 columns (= approximately 555 pages) (42) pages — no binding.
Reasonable, no band. Book block sturdy. First part's title page engraved on a blank page, glued in, with loss of the top right corner and frayed side edge. The top margin on the verso of the first 15 pages is reinforced/restored with paper that comes loose on several pages. There is a 1 to 2 cm tear in the margin on about 30 pages, as well as a tear at the bottom of the last register page of the first part, and a tear (4 cm) at the top of column 67 and at the bottom of pages 845 and 846, approximately 6 cm. A chunk missing from the margin of 6 pages. Notes on pages 915 and 919 of the second part. The interior pages are discolored, with some spots here and there, smudges on two pages, a light moisture stain in the top margin of many pages, and also in the side margin (overlapping the text) of the first 20 pages and the register pages of the second part. Some flyleaves.
Contains two engraved title pages.
