Description from the seller
Julius Winfield Erving II (Nassau County, New York, February 22, 1950), widely known by the nickname Dr. J, is a former American basketball player. Erving has made a significant contribution to modern basketball, where athletic ability, jumping, and playing above the rim have become increasingly important.
Erving was the most well-known player in the American Basketball Association (ABA) in 1976, at the time of merging with the NBA. He won, combined in ABA and NBA, three championships and four Most Valuable Player Awards. He led the scoring list for three seasons. He achieved this while playing with the Virginia Squires and the New York Nets in the ABA, and the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA. With 30,026 points (combined NBA and ABA), he is the fifth highest scorer in professional basketball history. He is the only player to have been named Most Valuable Player in both the ABA and the NBA. In 1996, Erving was honored as one of the 50 greatest NBA players of all time, a list compiled that year to celebrate the NBA's 50th anniversary. In 1993, he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Erving was one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He was known for his dunk from the free throw line. He was one of the best dunkers ever. His most famous dunk was the 'slam' dunk. Since then, this move has become a staple in basketball and is seen by most as a fundamental part of the game. He is also credited with popularizing the 'cross-over' dribble and the 'no look' pass.
