Description from the seller
Rare enlarged edition (the first was published in 1820, followed by numerous editions with varying numbers of plates) of this splendid book of views of the Isle of Wight, drawn by Irish artist George Brannon (1784-1860), with interesting descriptions of the customs and traditions of the English island located in the English Channel.
In addition to this album, a second was also published, which consisted of a 'Sequel' containing an additional 20 views of less important places on the island, but the work, as clearly specified in the 'Advertisement,' is to be considered complete in itself.
George Brannon, Vectis Scenery: being a series of original and select views, exhibiting the picturesque beauties, local peculiarities, and places of particular interest in the Isle of Wight..., Isle of Wight, Wotton-Common, 1829.
PP.: 52 (some post-post). Complete, with a hand-colored map of the island + 28 plates (almost all still protected by the original veils).
Example with cards in overall good/very good condition, with some scattered blooming. Tear, repaired, on the title page with traces of old restoration using tape that caused the loss of very few letters of text on the following page (also with a tear repaired with tape on the back).
Contemporary editorial binding in half red leather, with slight wear but well preserved overall. White endpapers.
