Description from the seller
/ Oil on Canvas / French Neo-Expressionism
Jeanne Socquet (1928-2024).
"L'écharpe bleue" (2005).
Oil on canvas.
Signed by the artist.
55 x 46 cm.
The solitary, feminist, and untimely elderly woman, Jeanne Socquet, is represented in numerous collections worldwide. A member of the radical group of women artists La Spirale, founded in 1972 by Charlotte Calmis, Jeanne Socquet co-wrote the book La création étouffée with Suzanne Horer in 1973, asserting the power of creation in women around the world.
Exquisite technique with sanding and setting of the paint on a quality canvas. Signatures in the lower right corner and on the back of the stretcher along with other notes. Natural, outstanding, and with aura.
"Jeanne Socquet is that neo-expressionist painter who skillfully depicts the malaise of contemporary society. Her paintings bear witness to time, loneliness, absurdity, violence, and the lack of communication of the outcasts in the society of abundance. Yet she manages to reflect that their isolation is, in reality, that of the solitary crowd" (Jean-Marie Tasset - art critic - February 2011).
