Description from the seller
Jan Wagenaar - Amsterdam in its rise, growth, histories, privileges, commerce, buildings, church-state, schools, militia, guilds, and government [...] - Amsterdam, Isaac Tirion, 1760 - first and only edition - part two - (14) + xxiv + 743 pages - original parchment binding (line borders, floral motifs, medallions), spine with prominent ribs, blind stamping, and handwritten title - 43 x 28 cm (GREAT FOLIO size)
Condition: beautiful / excellent - very neat band (slight gap in the fold at the front but firmly attached); very neat, compact, and sturdy block (like new!); very neat and very clean paper! (only some pages show the usual light browning, slightly wavy paper, one print missing, otherwise very neat, very fresh pages: as new! all prints have large, very original margins: the large copper engravings are notably fresh and white!).
NB: some of the photos are slightly yellowish due to camera settings, the paper is actually white!
The copper engravings are very detailed: sharp, dark prints. True works of art!
All the prints are photographed. See the many photos and see for yourself.
Painted on a shield is the old city coat of arms of Amsterdam and a newspaper article about this work.
Equipped with the large map of Amsterdam.
First edition
Large and heavy book.
Beautiful parchment: a feast for the eyes and an asset to any bookcase!
Contains a treasure trove of historical information about the history of Amsterdam!
