Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
A rare pair of two hand-painted gouache miniatures on paper from India, titled Due fogli di album dipinti a mano con raffigurati due pugnali Moghul, dating to the Mughal Empire (1526-1857), each depicting a Moghul dagger with jade handles and gold-inlaid details, bordered in gold and red, with possession stamps on the back.
Description from the seller
Rare pair of miniatures created in gouache on paper.
Important Mughal daggers are depicted, whose shapes suggest a royal origin.
The right dagger identifies a khanjar with a nephrite jade handle in shades tending towards green; the blade is straight, slightly serrated on both sides, and double-edged.
The left dagger features a jade handle adorned with gold inlays highlighted by colored gemstones inlaid into the metal; the blade is curved and sharpened along the edges.
Both miniatures are bordered in gold and red; on the back, there are possession stamps. Considering the uniqueness of the representations, it is possible that the miniatures originate from a copy of the well-known A’in-i-Akbari, a 16th-century Persian manuscript that includes a section dedicated to the military institution and weapons.
