Condition: beautiful / excellent - very neat original binding with complete spine (rare!) and very solid hinges; neat and sturdy block; generally nice, very fresh, and very white pages (title engraving glued onto old paper; first three and last four pages have small tears at the bottom corner; final psalms approximately 5 pages damaged at the bottom corner/edge; otherwise, notably very fresh and white paper, with no spots or stains!). Complete!
Note: some photos appear slightly yellowish due to camera settings, but the paper is actually fresh and white!

It contains an image of the Dutch Lion in the shield and above the knight's helmet; at the bottom of the coat of arms, the inscription 'S.P.Q.L.' ('Senatus Populus Que Leovardiensis': 'Senate and People of Leeuwarden') is displayed.

Most likely, this Bible was placed on the notable or aristocratic bench in De Grote or Jacobijnerkerk, the oldest and at the time most important church in Leeuwarden.

The initials 'K.M.' probably refer to its first owner, a prominent nobleman or a person from an aristocratic family. The Bible was published during the period when Johannes Plantinus was a preacher in Leeuwarden. It is possible that the Bible belonged to the noble family Röell.
Herman Alexander Röell was a Dutch diplomat and politician. He was born in 1872 and passed away in 1938. Röell served as the Dutch ambassador to several countries and was involved in various diplomatic negotiations. His career was marked by his dedication to Dutch foreign policy and his contributions to international relations during his tenure.

Very rare, unique, and valuable state Bible with the first edition (!) of the Psalm book from 1773.
