境界 (Kyōkai) - Japenese for “Boundary” - explores the quiet tension of a threshold – the moment where one thing becomes another, but has not yet fully crossed over. The large vertical format envelops the viewer, creating the sense of standing in front of a landscape that is at once physical and psychological.

From a distance, the work appears as a calm, earthy field, shifting gently from warm yellow-brown into deeper olive tones. As the eye adjusts, a soft cross structure emerges from within the surface: a barely visible intersection, like the memory of a horizon line meeting a path, or a coordinate grid used to orient ourselves in space. It is not a rigid symbol, but a trace – a suggestion of direction, choice and position.

The restrained palette of pigments: yellow oxide, yellow ochre and chromium oxide green creates a nuanced, almost meditative atmosphere. Subtle changes in value and density invite slow looking; the painting rewards time, revealing delicate transitions and small irregularities where the pigment has settled differently into the canvas.

境界 is conceived as a silent anchor in a room – a work that does not shout for attention, but steadily alters the energy of the space around it. Depending on the light, the cross may almost disappear or suddenly become present, echoing the shifting boundaries in our own lives: between outside and inside, certainty and doubt, movement and stillness.
