Description from the seller
沈黙
Pigment on canvas
100cm x 140cm (39 inches x 55 inches)
沈黙 (Chinmoku) - japanese for “Silence” - is built around the weight of silence - not the absence of sound, but the dense, almost physical quiet that appears after something has happened, or just before something begins. The large vertical format pulls the viewer into a dark, earthen field, where forms dissolve slowly rather than declare themselves.
Burnt umber and burnt sienna are layered into a deep, restrained surface that shifts between soil, smoke and dusk. Out of this darkness, a faint vertical axis appears, intersected by a subdued horizontal trace. It could be read as a figure, a cross, a path, or simply a scar in the landscape; the work never insists on a single interpretation, but leaves space for the viewer’s own narratives and memories to surface.
Seen in low light, the painting almost closes in on itself; in brighter light, subtle variations in tone and texture become visible, revealing how the pigments have sunk into the canvas like something slowly absorbed by the ground. This sensitivity to light gives 沈黙 a living quality – it does not look the same in the morning as it does at night.
This original painting by VITYRA is hand-signed on the reverse side to preserve the purity of the artwork’s surface and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. VITYRA is represented by S-Gallery, a well-known gallery for Viennese boundary-pushing contemporary artists. The artwork will be shipped rolled in a secure, protective tube - an eco-friendly and safe method that reduces shipping costs and risk of damage. The canvas measures 100 x 140 cm (39 x 55 inches), with an extra 5 cm border on each side for easy re-stretching. Frame placement is lightly marked on the back to assist precise mounting.
