Citizen Auto Dater Para Water 40M, reference ADSS81302-SA, from 1965 in the 1960s, stainless steel case 36 mm, silver sunburst dial with applied indices, 25‑jewel automatic movement, leather strap (18 mm), in good condition with visible wear.
Description from the seller
This Citizen Auto Dater Para Water 40M comes from the important transitional period of the 1960s, when Citizen was rapidly modernising its automatic watch line to compete head-to-head with Seiko’s Crown and early Sportsmatic series.
The Auto Dater was one of Citizen’s key mid-range automatic models of the era, positioned above simple three-hand automatics and distinguished by its dual calendar display and refined case construction.
A defining feature of this model is the Para Water specification — Citizen’s pioneering water-resistant technology introduced in 1959.
The “Para Water 40M” marking on the dial and caseback reflects Citizen’s early commitment to practical durability at a time when water-resistance was still emerging as a standard in Japanese watchmaking.
Models carrying this marking are sought after today because they represent the manufacturer’s early technical milestones.
The watch retains its original silver sunburst dial with applied indices, an oval day window, and the classic 25-jewel Citizen automatic movement, which formed the backbone of many of Citizen’s reliable mechanical watches throughout the 60s.
The caseback shows the full reference ADSS81302-SA, along with the Para Water Star emblem — a hallmark of Citizen’s engineering identity during this era.
Fitted with a new 18 mm genuine leather strap.
As a vintage watch, stable operation, accuracy, and water resistance are not guaranteed.
The watch will be carefully packed and shipped with tracking for safe delivery.
