Artist biography
Pere Colldecarrera i Camps was a Catalan landscape painter, associated with the Olot School of Landscape Painting. He was born in Olot (Garrotxa, Girona) on June 9, 1932, and passed away on April 21, 2020.
Training and artistic environment
He was formed in the artistic environment of Olot, heir to the tradition initiated at the end of the 19th century by Joaquim Vayreda and the School of Fine Arts of the city, a fundamental nucleus of Catalan landscape painting. Very young, at just 18 years old, he held his first solo exhibition in his hometown, which gave him visibility in the local scene and allowed him to establish himself as a landscape painter.
Style and themes
Colldecarrera was mainly known for his rural mountain landscapes, forests, streams, and corners of Garrotxa, which he depicted with a loose but very structured brushstroke and a strong sense of light. His works are often described as full of lyricism, tenderness, and sensitivity, with a solid mastery of drawing and color that turns each painting into an exaltation of nature.
Recognition
Within the context of Catalan post-war landscape art, he is considered one of the most faithful continuators of the Olot school spirit, to the point that some texts refer to him as 'master of the landscape.' His paintings have circulated widely in galleries and auctions, and today they are common in the Spanish art market, especially when it comes to views of Garrotxa and the landscapes of Moixina de Olot.
