Piet Volckaert was a Belgian artist born in 1902 in Saint-Gilles, Brussels, and died in 1973 in Laeken, Brussels. He was a painter and draftsman. He trained at the Academy in Saint-Gilles, Brussels, under the direction of F. Gailliard. He painted old Brussels corners and streets, canal views, landscapes, forest scenes from the area around the Rouge-Cloître, and portraits. He had powerful, spontaneous lines and a muted color palette. He was a friend of D. Haine. He was called the Brussels Utrillo by Alain Viray. He is mentioned in Bas I and Two Centuries of Signatures of Belgian Artists. (PIRON)
