Carefully printed edition on laid paper, illustrated with three frontispieces and three vignettes by Charles Eisen, engraved by Lempereur and Aliamet.
One of the most beautiful editions printed by Barbou, a leading specialist in Latin editions in the second half of the 18th century, for this complete edition of Plautus's comedies.
Complete in three volumes, bound in period full marbled calfskin, with triple gold fillets framing the covers, rounded spines decorated with floral motifs and gold fillets, garnet title and volume pieces, gilt initials, gilt edges, and decorated cuts.
In good condition. Decorative bindings with bright gilding. Fragments of the headband torn away on three volumes. Tiny crack at the hinge of one volume. Hinges and edges rubbed. Interior fresh and clean, few foxmarks. A fine copy.
