Jina Parshvanatha, sculpture in black stone, inscribed at the base and dated 1635 Vikram Samvat, which corresponds to 1579 in our calendar.
The Jina Parshvanatha is the twenty-third of the twenty-four Tirthankaras (Jain Illuminati), whose symbol is the cobra.
It is estimated that he was born in Varanasi between the 17th and 19th centuries BC. He is one of the most revered Jain saints, and many of his stone statues date mostly from the 10th to the 17th century.
It depicts a figure seated in Dhyana Mudra, immersed in deep meditation. The face is serene, and a five-headed cobra crowns and protects him.
Good condition, a restoration at the neck, beautiful patina, height 27 cm, weight 2770 g.
