Description from the seller

Small jardinière, cachepot, coin purse, in faience with high-fired couched enamels, signed Eugène Victor COLLINOT (1824 - 1889). 19th century, Japonism period, featuring a rotating decoration of magnificent flowers, branches, and a beautiful butterfly on a deep blue background.

Throughout his distinguished career, he developed a range of exceptional blues, from cerulean blue, through lavender blue, turquoise blue, celadon blue, up to midnight blue, the latter being the rarest.

Like Théodore DECK and Amédée de CARANZA, Eugène COLLINOT was considered one of the greatest ceramists of his time. He predates LONGWY, the inventor of cloisonné enamels (patented in 1864).
The hot-enamel bordering technique allows for greater precision in decoration and helps prevent drips of enamel.
He was awarded at several universal exhibitions; an entire room is dedicated to him at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.

Signed on the back of its seal, engraved in the paste (E.C, crescent moon with the motto 'Toujours' and the rising sun), as well as the number 11950 in ink for the decoration.

His works are quite rare on the market. Some of his major pieces can fetch over 5,000 Euros at auction.

Very good condition: no cracks, no hairlines, no restorations.

The enamel is still vivid, despite being 170 years old...

The photos are an integral part of the description.
