Description from the seller
This refined set of six white porcelain oyster plates is produced by the Bareuther Waldsassen factory, located in Bavaria, as indicated by the underglaze mark 'Bareuther Bavaria – W. Germany'. This type of mark was used by the manufacturer from 1967 until its closure in 1994, allowing these pieces to be dated to the second half of the 20th century, at a time when Bareuther offered an elegant, durable, and modern tableware line.
Each plate adopts a generous circular shape, structured around a slightly recessed center intended for either a sauce or a central presentation. Surrounding this core are six shell-shaped compartments, stylized like scallops, molded with a remarkable sense of relief. The walls of each compartment display radiating striations reminiscent of the natural veins of shells, while their edges soften the form with a subtle undulation, giving the whole an organic and harmonious appearance. The surface, entirely covered with an immaculate white glaze, offers a gentle play of light that highlights the delicacy of the porcelain while giving the piece a sober, elegant, and timeless aesthetic.
The condition quality is excellent. The six trays show no cracks, chips, or glaze wear. The whiteness is perfectly preserved, without stains or dullness. The reliefs are sharp, the edges intact, and the alveolar areas show no signs of heavy use. Everything indicates that these pieces were rarely used and remain in a remarkable display condition.
The Bareuther Waldsassen manufacturing company, founded in 1866 and active until 1994, is part of the major Bavarian porcelain manufacturers that shaped the German industry of the 20th century. After 1945, it modernized its lines and adopted a decidedly functional aesthetic, while maintaining the finesse of traditional Bavarian porcelain. During the period marked 'West Germany,' Bareuther developed a wide range of tableware intended for high-quality domestic use, exemplified perfectly by these oyster plates: a sleek design, skilled craftsmanship, discreet yet sculptural decoration, and robustness suitable for daily use. These pieces thus serve as a representative testimony of German ceramic design from the second half of the 20th century.
The average dimensions are:
Diameter: 23.6 centimeters.
Height: 2.7 centimeters.
Total weight of the set: 3000 grams.
Each of the 6 plates will be carefully packaged, and the entire set will be shipped quickly and securely. In-store pickup and combined delivery are available. Photos are part of the description.
