Les femmes de Brantôme, edited by Henri Bouchot and Pierre de Bourdeille, is the first illustrated and annotated edition published in Paris by Maison Quantin in 1890, with 287 pages in a hardback quarter vellum binding and 30 full-page plates.

Paris: Maison Quantin, 1890. 287 pages. 28cm x 21cm. Quarter vellum binding with printed boards, gilt lettered spine, top gilt edge, and patterned endpapers. First illustrated and annotated edition of this collection of biographical anecdotes and portraits of gallant ladies written by the French chronicler and aristocrat Pierre de Bourdeille, Seigneur de Brantôme (c. 1540–1614). Comes with 30 full page illustrations with captioned tissue guards and numerous in-text black and white engravings throughout.
Rubbing, bumping, wear, and some scratching to the boards and spine. Pencil markings on the recto of the free front endpaper. And on the recto of the back free endpaper. Some of the captioned tissue guards have some creases in them. There is a tear in the tissue guard next to pages 80 and 192, and a small hole in the tissue guard next to page 280. The tissue guards next to pages 16 and 128 have some small pieces of the opposite page stuck on them, The tissue guard next to page 72 is bent at the top outer corner. The tissue guard for the plate next to page 160 missing. The text is clear, the illustrations are bright and crips, and the binding is solid. Overall, a nice copy in very good- condition.
