Bert Hermans, Staircase to heaven (Lederfabriek KVL), 2015, hand-signed, sold with frame, depicting an interior scene; 80 × 60 cm, 4 kg; Netherlands; sold directly from the artist.
Description from the seller
Artist Bert Hermans visited the KVL leather factory in Oisterwijk with his cousin in February 2015. The factory complex of the Royal United Leather (KVL) in Oisterwijk dates back to 1915. KVL became the largest leather manufacturer in Europe in the 1930s. Well into the 1980s, the factory accounted for a quarter of the total Dutch leather production. At that time, KVL was still among the ten largest leather factories in Europe. The factory was important for Oisterwijk because many of the town's residents worked there. At the same time, the factory held economic significance for the entire Brabant region due to its position in Europe. Since 2000, the factory has been closed, and the building has gradually fallen into disrepair.
A visit to this industrial heritage site on February 11, 2015, and the photographs and sketches I took there, provided important inspiration for this painting.
The painting is sold including a frame and including a 'Certificate of Authenticity'.
Bert Hermans (1947) specializes in industrial and cultural heritage. The source of inspiration for his paintings is often buildings with distinctive architecture.
Hermans regularly exhibits in galleries and at Dutch art fairs. He has won many awards.
His work has been exposed in 12 European countries, as well as in the United States, China, and Japan.
