Description from the seller

Rare 19th-century book by François Depouhon, a French economist and writer, about the trade and economic significance of the Schelde (Escaut) for Belgium and Europe. It covers trade, shipping movements, port activities, and political agreements regarding the free passage of the river. Published: September 1832.

This copy contains a handwritten dedication from the author: 'À Monsieur Bischoffsheim, hommage de l’auteur.' It is most likely / probably addressed to Jonathan-Raphaël Bischoffsheim (1808–1883), a member of the influential Belgian banking family Bischoffsheim, given the date, location, and thematic relevance of the book.

Condition: reasonable; the front cover and introductory pages are somewhat loose, but the inside is otherwise good. See the detailed photos for a full description.
