Description from the seller
A beautiful polder landscape near the village of Noordwijkerhout (province of South Holland) with a sand dumper unloading sand from a ship into a boat. (See annotation on the back of the painting dated 1929.) On the canvas, Alex Rosemeier painted with administrative number 565. The size of the canvas is 40x60 cm, and the outer dimensions of the frame are 58x78 cm. In the lower right corner, the painting is signed 'Rosemeier'.
Origin: private collection.
The painting is in excellent restored condition. This artwork was restored in 2014, for which the invoice is available. The painting is clean of surface dirt, and a new final varnish has recently been applied, ensuring good preservation for the future. The ornament frame is in good condition and shows limited signs of use.
The Dutch artist Alexander Coenraad Rosemeier was born in Surakarta (Indonesia) on July 18, 1888, and died in Leiden on August 15, 1992. Rosemeier was a student of Alfons Baeyens (1887-1954), Frits Jansen (1856-1928), Floris Verster (1861-1927), and Willem Weissenbruch (1864-1941). He is considered part of the Leiden School alongside painters such as Arend Jan van Driesten (1878-1969), Willem van der Nat (1864-1929), and Chris van der Windt (1877-1952).
The painting is well packaged (including frame protection with foam U-profiles) and shipped via registered mail. The painting can also be picked up at our gallery in Lisse.
