The circuitry of this bass, although passive, uses an active piezo pickup. This construction philosophy is centered on passive circuitry, which according to Manne enhances the natural sound of the instrument and preserves the typical classical dynamic of the electric bass. This is because any electronic circuit, no matter how good, inevitably influences the tone—perhaps minimally—but also inevitably compresses the dynamics. For this reason, the circuit's balance is not strictly progressive: by choice, both signals are not preamplified to better mix them, maintaining the passive sound on which the piezo's sound is added.
