Orrefors crystal vase dating to 1960–1970, 23.7 cm high with a 6.5 cm top diameter (base 6.4 cm), weight 1450 g, transparent, limited edition 131/696, made in Sweden.
Description from the seller
This solid crystal vase, with a square column shape and rounded corners, is a creation by Orrefors Sweden, one of the most iconic houses of Scandinavian glass design in the 20th century. It still bears its original label — a red shield reading 'Orrefors Sweden' — as well as the engraved signature at the tip beneath the base, accompanied by the number 131/696, indicating a limited edition. The style, typography of the label, and craftsmanship suggest it was produced likely between the late 1960s and early 1970s, a period during which Orrefors widely promoted its modernist models in clear, thick crystal.
The vase adopts an elongated, vertical shape, with a slightly rounded square section, creating a silhouette that is both structured and gentle. The outer wall is perfectly smooth and highly transparent, while the interior of the vase — formed by blowing and then cutting the crystal — creates a curved cavity that is narrower than the outer wall, giving the overall effect of a 'double wall' visual. This contrast between the rigid geometry of the square outline and the more organic internal curve is characteristic of Scandinavian formal language: sobriety, purity, and a subtle play between mass and light.
The lip is very slightly thickened, highlighting the precision of the shaping. The base, also square, is fully polished, and the engraved signature is clearly visible, surrounded by a network of micro-scratches consistent with regular contact on a hard surface.
The vase is in very good overall condition. It retains its shine and transparency, the crystal mass is perfectly intact, and the shape has suffered no structural damage. However, two remarks should be noted: a small discriminating chip located on the face bearing the original label; and visible usage scratches under the base and occasionally on the walls, discreet and compatible with careful use.
These elements do not detract at all from the very beautiful presence of this vase, nor its decorative character.
Founded in 1898, Orrefors quickly became one of the major centers of Swedish artistic glass in the early 20th century. Driven by designers such as Simon Gate, Edward Hald, Vicke Lindstrand, and Nils Landberg, the manufacturer developed an identity based on modernity, the absolute transparency of crystal, precise cutting, and the sculpting of light within the mass. In the 1960s and 70s, Orrefors continued this tradition by favoring minimalist forms, architecturally clean, often based on pure geometry and the thickness of clear crystal. This numbered vase, with its sleek square shape and elegant inner modeling, fully embodies this aesthetic line where crystal becomes a luminous volume shaped to interact with space.
The dimensions are:
Height: 23.7 centimeters.

- Base diameter: 6.4 centimeters.
