I am offering at auction a necklace with a large pendant made of beautiful natural lapis lazuli from Afghanistan and a 925 silver clasp plated with gold.
The necklace has been professionally hand-spun with quality silk and cotton blend thread.
The relationship between lapis lazuli and Christianity focuses on its artistic and symbolic use to represent the Virgin Mary and its association with divinity, thanks to its intense blue color that reminded people of the sky and wisdom.
During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, the pigment of lapis lazuli, called ultramarine, was highly valued and frequently used to paint the Virgin's garments in paintings and altarpieces.
