Description from the seller
A pair of pressed glass candlesticks, crafted by the renowned Val Saint Lambert workshops. This stunning set dates from the early 1910s (listed in the 1913 catalog, Planche 35, nos. 19 and 20) and embodies the beauty and artistry of the era.
The candlesticks, called "Sacré Coeur de Jésus et Marie," are imbued with profound religious symbolism. They feature delicate and detailed images of Mary and Jesus. Each figure is meticulously rendered, with a prominent heart on the chest—the Sacred Heart, a powerful symbol of devotion. These designs resonate with the spiritual ethos of the time and add both historical and devotional depth to these decorative objects.
These candelabras are made from expertly pressed clear glass with gold details and showcase the incredible skill of the artisans of Val Saint Lambert. The clear glass beautifully plays with the light, highlighting the intricate details. Note the decorative motifs at the top and bottom, as well as the elegant shape of the figures. The design seamlessly combines Roman and ancient Greek influences, adding a touch of timeless elegance to any setting. These candelabras are attributed to Leon Ledru, one of the most influential designers at Val Saint Lambert during that period, reflecting his mastery of figures and religious motifs, although no specific documentation is available.
De Maria is very clearly signed, the Jesus somewhat less so. Both are in good condition. Bubbles and casting lines are typically due to the used manufacturing process.
Dimensions: H 29.5 cm x W 14 cm
Is carefully packed and shipped with shipping insurance and track and trace. Photos are part of the description.
