Description from the seller
Beautiful illustrated edition by the Art Deco painter Robert Bonfils (1886-1971) of this new poetics by Gérard de Nerval, published in 1853 in the Revue des deux Mondes, and later included in 1854 in the collection Filles du feu. According to his own admission, Nerval considers this text to be the best of his short stories.
Decorated with 43 woods by the artist, printed in green, red, and black: title (reproduced on the first cover plate), 13 large in-text illustrations, 14 banners, 14 tailpieces, a culispice, and a few decorative vignettes at the colophon.
Limited to 285 copies, this one of 250 on Rives vellum (after the 35 Japan), bears the number 104.
Sheet, illustrated, embossed cover. Under a cardboard slipcase with flaps, decorated on the boards and flaps with floral motifs and musical instruments.
Condition: light creases on the second cover of the volume, otherwise the work is in excellent condition. The case is solid, shows scuffs and tears.
