Description from the seller
Original edition (first edition in bookstores) of the collection of short stories by René Boylesve, adorned with sanguine embellishments by Pierre Hepp. A unique print run of 525 copies. This one is from the limited edition, one of the 25 copies on Japon paper (No. XI).
Enriched with the very rare series of 9 color etchings created by Sergueï Solomko (Serge de Solomko, 1867-1928) and engraved by Emile Feltesse, intended for the second partly original edition published in 1920 by Calmann-Lévy.
Rebound in a beautiful binding executed in the Bradel style with half-long-grain maroon leather, spine smooth and decorated with the author, the title, and the date in gold lettering. Covers and spine preserved.
Untrimmed copy, in good condition. Slight signs of sunning on the top surface, minimal scuffing on the headbands and corners. Interior clean and fresh, free of foxing.
The very title of this collection has always pleased me, not only because it evokes a harmonious image, but because the balance it expresses between the grace of pure forms and the grimace of this 'divine disease' I see in the face of the world seems to characterize a state of mind that is reflected in all my books." Mahé, Repertoire of luxury editions, p. 113.
René Boylesve, Pierre Hepp / Serge de Solomko
Nymphs dancing with satyrs.
Paris, Dorbon-Aîné / Coll. 'Les Bibliophiles fantaisistes', 1913.
A volume in in-4 format (258 x 198 mm) of 122 pages, including 9 etchings.
