Description from the seller
Peill und Putzler - Wilhelm Wagenfeld - Glass service (36) - 'Karat' - crystal
Glasservice model 'Karat', made from colorless hand-blown crystal glass.
Manufactured by the company Peill and Putzler according to a design by Wilhelm Wagenfeld. All glasses feature an etched company logo (signed) on the stand and are partly still equipped with old company labels.
The glassworks Peill and Sohn, founded in 1903, was destroyed during the Second World War; therefore, the 1945 merger with the company Putzler in Penzing/Oberlausitz secured their shared future. The entry of Wilhelm Wagenfeld (1900 – 1990) in 1958 allowed for a significant influence on the design of drinking glasses and lighting glass. The glass series 'Karat' was certainly a manufacturing challenge, as the heavy and intricately cut foot had to seamlessly merge with the extremely thin bowl.
Literature: Wilhelm Wagenfeld – the great glass designer of Germany in Erich Merkle, 100 Years of Peill-Kristal Bärenhütte, Weisswasser, pp. 85 – 99.
Condition: Generally well-preserved with barely visible signs of use, but no damages.
Dimensions: 6 champagne glasses, approximately 16.5 cm total height.
8 x white wine glasses, approximately 11 cm total height.
8 water glasses, approximately 11 cm total height.
8x liqueur bowls, approximately 7cm total height.
6 shot glasses, approximately 7.5 cm in total height.
