Ancient Near Eastern Stone Bowl
Circa 2nd-1st millennium BC
This elegant stone bowl is finely worked with a deep hemispherical body rising from a gently rounded base, the walls carefully thinned and finished with a narrow lip at the mouth. The exterior is enlivened by a band of closely spaced horizontal turning marks just below the rim, giving a delicate sense of texture around the otherwise smooth, continuous curve of the vessel, while the interior is evenly hollowed to follow the outer profile.
