Elegant centrepiece in opal glass with a bronze mount, 20 cm maximum diameter, 16.5 cm high, Europe origin, estimated period 1950–1960.
Description from the seller
Elegant opaline enameled glass centerpiece with a bronze mounting – Europe, early 20th century
Refined white opaline glass centerpiece, richly decorated with raised polychrome enamels and gilded accents, supported by a finely crafted bronze mount.
The bathtub features a lively floral decoration, handcrafted, typical of the Mitteleuropean production between the late 19th and early 20th centuries (Bohemia/Austria area). The mount, rich in vegetal elements and cartouches, includes a pierced upper handle and a turned base with relief ornaments.
The opal glass is of very beautiful quality, thick and luminous. Inside, a circular structural crack around the mounting point and a vertical crack on the outer side are visible—important details to note but which do not compromise the overall decorative effect or stability in presentation. A scenographic piece of furniture, ideal for tables, consoles, and both classic and eclectic environments.
Technical specifications
Material: Hand-painted opaline glass and bronze worked.
Origin: Central Europe (probably Bohemia/Austria)
Period: Circa 1900–1920
Relief polychrome enamels, golden fillets, perforated bronze mounting.
Dimensions: 20 cm maximum diameter; 11.5 cm base diameter; 16.5 cm height (with handle 26 cm height); weight 1.043 kg.
Conditions
Good overall condition for its age. Internal structural crack around the mounting point. Visible crack externally on the side of the tub. Slight signs of aging on the bronze mount (original patina). No missing enamel.
Curiosity
Enamelled opaline glass was highly appreciated in Bohemian and Austrian production in the early twentieth century, often paired with bronze or brass mounts in the neobaroque or Liberty style.
The use of multicolored raised enamels was characteristic of manufactories specializing in centerpieces and decorative lamps.
