Paesaggio con figure, XVII century oil on canvas from the Netherlands, by a follower of Meindert Hobbema, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Main features of the work
Meindert Hobbema (1638–1709), follower of • Landscape with Figures • Oil on canvas • 69×95 cm • With frame 106×132
Opera belonging to the Dutch Landscape movement of the 17th century. Style: Realism.
The author of this work is a direct follower of Meindert Hobbema, active in the second half of the seventeenth century, as demonstrated by the light, the type of landscape, the house on the canal, and the meticulous rendering of the trees: elements typical of the Hobbema circle between 1665 and 1700. The presence of the classic brick construction, combined with the diagonal path crossing the scene and guiding the viewer's eye towards the luminous background, closely recalls the most well-known compositions of Hobbema's followers.
The painting immediately conveys a sense of quality and visual solidity: the clear light, the balanced scene, and the contrasts between shadows and luminous openings make the landscape clear and readable. The brushwork is subtle and controlled, with glazes typical of the Dutch Seventeenth Century and a precise, natural construction of the foliage. The artist's hand shows a clear knowledge of the Hobbema models, evident in the structure of the trees, the arrangement of the vegetation, and the depth of the space.
The frame is an important carved wooden model, with a Nordic taste, antique, and, by type and patina, presumably contemporary with the painting. It appears sturdy, well-proportioned, and contributes to enhancing the overall composition of the work. The overall dimensions of 106×132 cm give the painting a strong presence and a notable impact.
Opera datable to the second half of the 17th century, with stylistic features consistent with Dutch landscape painting of the period.
Due to its size and weight, the piece is shipped with reinforced packaging and dedicated protections, designed to ensure maximum safety and stability during transport. Free pickup in Milan/Monza is recommended.
