Description from the seller

GREAT OPPORTUNITY to purchase the WONDERFUL FIRST BOOK by well-known East-German photographer Barbara Metselaar Berthold (1951-2024) from 2008 - in EXCELLENT FRESH CONDITION + SIGNED.

This book is one of only two books Barbara Metselaar Berthold made during lifetime (the other one is "Albatros" from 2010 which i am also offering - signed by the artist - in this auction).

Signed by the artist in the year of the publication = VINTAGE SIGNATURE.
I GUARANTEE THE AUTHENTICITY OF THE SIGNATURE AND THE FACT THAT THIS SIGNATURE IS VINTAGE.

Barbara Metselaar Berthold was born in 1951 in Pleißa, Saxony.
Studied social psychology (Friedrich Schiller University Jena) and photography (Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig).
Worked as a freelance photographer in Berlin/GDR. In 1984, emigrated to West Berlin and began working with video.
Since 1990, cinematographer, director, and producer of documentary films.

THIS IS THE VERY FIRST PHOTOBOOK AUCTION ON CATAWIKI - dedicated entirely to the world of the former "DDR"/"GDR" ("GERMAN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC" or "EAST GERMANY") which existed from 1949 to 1990.

Still largely undiscovered and unexplored, this field offers a wealth of fascinating discoveries for collectors.
5Uhr30.com presents exceptional works by renowned and emerging artists, survey works, compelling monographs, as well as extraordinarily rare small vintage catalogues, vintage children’s books and vintage factory photobooks; signed publications, posters, and much more.

"We would so much have liked to be heroes: There are generations whose age-specific feeling for life corresponds to the general mood of society. For us, that was the case. Born in the late 1940s and early 1950s into the GDR, we experienced in the youthful spirit of awakening how upheavals were emerging in many parts of the world—revolts breaking out and the hope of sweeping away old restrictions and commandments. This happened mostly in countries inaccessible to us, with the exception of the Prague Spring of 1968, but its reflections affected us all the more strongly.
This euphoric time, full of drive and moments of happiness, did not last long. The state authorities did their best to cut off the air of those who were unruly. The country slipped into paralysis. The hippie era was over."
