Barbara Metselaar Berthold was born in 1951 in Pleißa, Saxony.
Studied social psychology (Friedrich Schiller University Jena) and photography (Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig).
Worked as a freelance photographer in Berlin/GDR. In 1984, emigrated to West Berlin and began working with video.
Since 1990, cinematographer, director, and producer of documentary films.

This happened mostly in countries inaccessible to us, with the exception of the Prague Spring of 1968, but its reflections affected us all the more strongly.
This euphoric time, full of drive and moments of happiness, did not last long. The state authorities did their best to cut off the air of those who were unruly. The country slipped into paralysis. The hippie era was over."
