Description from the seller
4 white chardonnay burgundy wines of upcoming star Maison Skyaasen
- 1 bottle mersault 2020 (last vintage)
Joachim Skyaasen came to Burgundy with the goal of learning to make wine in 2017, after leaving a career in finance. Since then, he has made good use of his time: first, by completing his studies in viticulture in Beaune, then by landing positions in the cellars of Maison Harbour and then at the famed Chandon de Briailles. He then started his own micro-negotiant project, Maison Skyaasen, which debuted with the 2019 vintage. Joachim and his family now live directly above their small, historic cellar in the center of the village of Meursault.
Like most young winemakers in Burgundy who don’t have inherited vines to kickstart their projects, Joachim has gone the route of a negociant. Nonetheless, he remains committed to being extremely selective with the parcels he chooses to work, which leads to tiny quantities and incredibly focused wines. The vines are always either organic or in the process of conversion at his behest. In the cellar, only traditional methods are used, and everything is done by hand. All ferments are completed without added yeast, and he only adds SO2 at bottling when necessary.
Joachim is an exacting and passionate winemaker, and his wines are made in a painstaking, intentional manner, with no corners cut. Not surprisingly, his quantities are tiny for now, but we are excited to see this exciting project progress over the coming years.
