Distribution
It mainly resides in the western part of its range, but the Russian populations of this passerine bird are more migratory, moving further south in winter, to the Arabian Peninsula and Egypt. It is a very rare bird that migrates to Western Europe.

It is a bird typical of open fields and the steppe. It nests on the ground, where it lays 4-5 eggs. It feeds on seeds, supplemented by insects during the breeding season. It is gregarious outside the breeding season.
