Linguaphone Language Courses - English is a 1st edition English-language portfolio by J. R. R. Tolkien & Lloyd, published by the Linguaphone Institute (Made in England) in 1930, comprising four books with about 200 pages and including a slipcase.

An exceptionnal piece of history, the very first state, printing and pressing of the Linguaphone, first ever recording of Tolkien's voice.
What makes it a true rarity, is the set for sale here is the first pressing, issued in 1930, as it is written on the title page of the conversationnal course booklet ("Première Edition, 1930"). Tolkien is mentioned among the contributors.
The case itself is in its very first state, without the label detailing the lessons on each disc. All 16 discs present in sleeves which are also in their very first state, without the ads we can see on the subsequent pressings/printings. Only the sleeve for the disc 16 'English Sounds" shows the mention "linguaphone".
General condition are very good for a set of this age (some splits in the case, the skin strap is broken but still here (please note subsequent states has a handle, only the first edition has a skin strap).
Discs sleeves are in good condition, made of fragile paper but still in once piece with some small tears on some.
3 booklets 1 bookl in good condition, split in the endapaper of conversationnal course booklet, some foxing.
