Northwest Africa 16843 (NWA 16843) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2024 Apr 13 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, polymict) History: The meteorite was purchased from a dealer in Temara, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Grayish fragment with some fusion crust. Petrography: Polymict breccia composed of up to 4 mm sized basaltic and up to 1.5 mm sized mineral fragments set in fine-grained clastic matrix of related material. Predominant minerals are zoned low-Ca pyroxene, exsolved pyroxene, and calcic plagioclase. Minor phases include olivine, silica, ilmenite, chromite, troilite, and FeNi metal. Contains thin shock melt veins.
